IKADPAUDI and National Library of the Republic of Indonesia Launch the Book "Play and Games in Early Childhood Education"

JAKARTA — The Indonesian Association of Early Childhood Education Doctors (IKADPAUDI), together with the National Library of the Republic of Indonesia (Perpusnas RI), launched a book titled Play and Games in Early Childhood Education at the Perpusnas RI Building in Jakarta on Saturday, July 27, 2024. The launch was part of the series of events commemorating National Children's Day 2024. This book is a collaborative work by IKADPAUDI members, compiled as an academic and practical contribution to the development of early childhood education in Indonesia. Its presence is expected to help teachers, educators, early childhood practitioners, parents, and the community understand the position of play in children's growth, development, and learning processes. IKADPAUDI General Chairperson Dr. Sukiman explained that the publication of the book is a form of implementing IKADPAUDI's mission to respond to the challenges and needs of early childhood practitioners and educators. The theme of play was chosen because it holds a significant position in children's lives and in the learning approach of early childhood education. Play is not merely a time-filling activity for children. In early childhood practice, playing can serve as a vehicle for children to acquire various learning experiences, develop abilities, interact with their environment, and obtain comprehensive developmental stimulation. Therefore, the processes of learning and playing should not be separated, but rather designed as a learning experience through play. The book Play and Games in Early Childhood Education also pays attention to issues still encountered in learning practices, including the difficulty some educators face in integrating play activities with meaningful learning experiences. This book offers understanding and practical ideas so that play can be used appropriately as a means to achieve learning objectives and child development stimulation. The preparation of the book took about two years. Dr. Yasmin Yessy Gusman, who was involved in the compilation process alongside the IKADPAUDI board, expressed gratitude for the realization of the cooperation with Perpusnas RI until the book could be published and launched. This book is expected to provide widespread benefits for early childhood teachers, educational practitioners, and the public. IKADPAUDI Advisory Board member Prof. Tjipto Sumadi emphasized the importance of book writing as a scientific legacy for future generations. Written works allow the ideas, experiences, and knowledge of academics and educational practitioners to continue to be studied even as generations of teachers and lecturers change. He also hopes that IKADPAUDI will continue to produce subsequent scientific works. Appreciation for the book launch was also conveyed by the representative of the Directorate of Early Childhood Education, Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, Retno Wulandari, as well as the representative of Perpusnas RI, Edi Wiyono from Perpusnas Press. The National Library also encourages the reach of works by early childhood education doctors to be further expanded, including through development in digital formats. This book launch demonstrates IKADPAUDI's commitment to bridging academic studies with real-world needs in the field. Through collaboration, publication, and knowledge dissemination, IKADPAUDI continues to promote the strengthening of early childhood education quality that respects the world of children and aligns with the fulfillment of rights and optimal development for every child.
